Our first NMEA All County Day of Percussion was a great success!!!! Students from all around the county came together for what was a great day of Workshops and Performances!! This is your chance to nominate your students and give them the opportunity to audition for this years ensemble. Nominations are open to ALL students in grades 9-12, this is an open audition process and does not require prior participation in NYSSMA. Simply login to nmeaac.org and nominate your students. Please make sure that Div. 4 & 5 are selected on your profile and then in the drop down for Nomination Type select Day of Percussion. Below you will find all the requirements for the Ensemble. As always, should you have any questions feel free to reach out to myself or either of our chairpeople. Nominations will close on December 15th.
NMEA All-County Day of Percussion Info:
This year’s Nassau County Music Educators Association (NMEA) Day of Percussion will be held on April 20, 2018 at Massapequa High School, NY. The day will consist of masterclasses by Frank Bellucci on Drumset and the Jim Royal Steel Drum Band. There will also be the performance of the NMEA All-County Percussion Ensemble made of some of the best percussionists in Nassau County. The evening will conclude with a “Massed Ensemble”, where everyone in attendance will also get to perform (music is on the website). Door prizes will be raffled off during this event by some of the top companies in world of percussion. All County Percussion Ensemble Info
NMEA All-County Ensemble is the auditioned group that performs at the NMEA Day of Percussion. High school students need to be RECOMMENDED for an AUDITION, and then pass the AUDITION to be selected for this group.
Nomination forms for the 2018 All-County Day of Percussion Ensemble are now available at www.nmeaac.org (click on the “Registration” button, and then on the “All-County Percussion Ensemble” form.) This is only for high school students interested in auditioning for the All-County Ensemble.
All-County Ensemble requirements
Students must meet the following criteria:
1. Applicants must be able to be at all rehearsals for entire rehearsal time. Failure to attend any portion of any rehearsal will result in the student being removed from the ensemble.
2. Applicants must prepare an appropriate level solo as per the NYSSMA Manual level 5 or 6. They can perform a solo on the instrument of their choice Mallet, Snare drum or Timpani.
3. Applicants must register by December 15, 2017
4. Any player who does not satisfactorily learn the music will not be permitted to participate in the All-County Ensemble.
5. Participants must be in grades 9-12.
Timeline for auditioned ensemble:
November 1, 2017 – Nominations will open
December 15, 2017- Nomination Deadline
January 5, 2018 – Selected for an audition time
January 16, 2018 – NMEA All-County Percussion Ensemble Auditions at Massapequa HS – starting at 3:00pm
February 9, 2018 – Selections will be made by (music emailed out shortly after that)
2018 All-County Percussion Ensemble Required Rehearsals:
Monday, March 19 – 5:00pm – 9:00pm (Bring a bag dinner)
Tuesday, March 27 – 5:00pm – 9:00pm (Bring a bag dinner)
Wednesday, April 11 – 5:00pm – 9:00pm (Bring a bag dinner)
Thursday, April 19 – 4:00pm – 9:00pm (Dress rehearsal, dinner is supplied)
Friday, April 20 – 4:00pm – 9:00pm (Day of Percussion)
